As I am finishing up Desiring God by John Piper I can't help but share what he writes at the end of his book about why he wrote the book. He quotes:
GOD IS BREATHTAKING!
- Psalm 27:4
One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple.
- Isaiah 6:1-3
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above Him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of His glory." [emphasis mine]
After quoting these passages he says:
"The human race does in fact crave the experience of awe and wonder. And there is no reality more breathtaking than God."
Now I want to add one more passage about the The Ancient of Days, from Daniel that has meant so much to me over the last 2 months. It too, speaks of the breathtaking glory of our God:
- Daniel 7:9-10
9 "As I looked, "thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of His head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before Him. Thousands upon thousands attended Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. [Emphasis mine]
Praise and Glory to the King of Kings!
Choosing JOY,
Stephanie

Now you have to read "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper...wow, what a good book!
I'm still milking the epilogue of Desiring God... and I almost want to read it all over again right away! It has truly brought me to a place of desiring nothing more than God Himself! Thanks for the recommendation... I'll add that one to my list too. I do so appreciate your sharing with me...and passing this along to others. May God be praised in all our efforts to love and desire Him!
